Our story

We are an interdisciplinary EU and non-EU team of professionals and representatives from small and medium-sized cities and city consortia. Our mission is to promote climate change adaptation and disaster risk prevention, taking an ecosystem-based approach.

Led by the Municipality of Celje (Slovenia), this international project brings together 10 partners from 7 countries. Over 2 years and 9 months, we will work together to create new- and improve existing urban green areas, and involve local people in designing more natural, livable spaces.

With expert support from organisations like IPoP – Institute for Spatial Policies, Ambiente Italia, CREAF, and the University of Zagreb, the project will create local Urban Nature Plans and test practical solutions in real neighborhoods.

Pilot projects will take place in Celje (Slovenia), Ioannina (Greece), Budva (Montenegro), Gjorce Petrov (North Macedonia), Varaždin (Croatia) and Suzzara (Italy). These will include greening and creating green corridors for reducing heat, rainwater management and improving biodiversity in vulnerable areas, as well as green space management.
